EARTHQUAKE
ONE YEAR ON: MOHAMMAD'S STORY
Mohammad Ishfaq Khan, a very bright
12-year-old, has lived in Drangyari since the earthquake destroyed his former village,
Rangwar in October 2005. Like other residents, he wants to stay in Drangyari.
Returning to Rangwar, which is ruined, has no road access and is highly
vulnerbale to cross-border shelling is not an option.
Mohammad attends
the school built by villagers as part of ActionAid’s cash-for-work scheme and
has started a cricket team with 22 other children.
“I’m glad we have this school. We used to have to travel three hours
every morning and every night to get to classes.
Now the teachers come here and we have more time
to play. I still go to visit my old village sometimes. I miss that place.”
