In
memory - Ricky Tombing
Ricky
Tombing, 26, succumbed to AIDS related illness on the night of December 5, 2006
at
Salom
Hospital
in a small town in Manipur near the
Myanmar
border. He will be sorely missed by family, friends and all those involved in
the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Ricky
was one of the brightest young members of ActionAid’s fellowship initiative
supporting HIV positive people to become community leaders in tackling the
epidemic. He had touched the hearts of many.
A
talented musician, Ricky wrote songs about life, hope and dreams. ActionAid
introduced him to Hindi-rock star Palash Sen and together they recorded a number
of songs, one of which features in Sen’s latest album ‘Muhafiz’
(Custodian).
Ricky
was admitted to hospital for the last time in November, a few days before he was
due to perform at the India Social Forum. His devoted cousin Shelly took his
place on the main stage singing his songs in front of thousands.
An
album of Ricky’s songs performed by Palash Sen will be released in 2007.
These
were some of Ricky’s favourite lyrics.
Love
is full of acceptance
But
I don’t want to see you crying
Cause
I’m going to leave you alone
I
know you will be fighting alone.
Let
me loose you, 'coz I love you
Let
me leave you for your own good
Let
me fight it and win for you
But
I still want to say I love you.
