Actionaid India is very much a part of the campaign for Universalisation of school education. We participate in this effort at different levels. Internationally we are a part of the Global campaign on Education for all and we are an integral part of the initiative taken by the Common Education Fund to fulfill the promise of education for all. Actionaid is the lead partner in a national consortium which consists of ourselves, Oxfam and Save the children-UK.
The cutting edge of the campaign is to make the Government schools function and for this we are presently focusing especially on three states namely Uttar Pradesh-where Oxfam is the lead agaency, Andhra Pradesh where SCF is the lead agency and Orissa where Actionaid has the lead responsibility.
Our attempt in India is to achieve full enrollment, retention and good quality equitable education, above all by ensuring that Government schools begin to function. We are also in alliance with other national initiatives on the issue. Chief among these allies are the MVFoundation, Pratham, CACL, NAFRE, Doosra dashak and other like minded organizations.
The campaign pays special attention to the enrollment of girl children and particularly takes up the issue of adolescent girl children at school and on the way to school.
Actionaid India is also playing a lead role in coordinating the efforts on education at the Asian level bringing together a working group from all the Asian countries where Actionaid works.
