India has a population of over 1 billion, making it the second most populated country in the world. The sex ratio (i.e. number of females per thousand males) is 933 and the literacy rate 65.38%.
ActionAid International-India
AAI-India believes that almost half of the Indian population belongs to the excluded category.
The core constituencies that ActionAid International-India work with include: women and girls, dalits, tribals, most backward communities, minorities, informal sector labour, urban poor, people living with HIV and AIDS, trafficked people, people in sex work and people affected by disasters.
Each region selects a few of the social groups to work with depending upon availability of resources and efficient management.
It is this segment of the Indian population which is denied full citizenship and hence it is the strategy of ActionAid International-India to work for realizing all the basic needs of these citizens with special emphasis on the right to food and livelihood, right to education, right to housing, right to human security, right to health.
