Act for Children

Monali (name changed) was only 13 when she was kidnapped from her home in West Bengal and trafficked hundreds of kilometres away to Odisha. The trafficker tortured, abused and raped her. She was going to be sold as a child bride.

Monali didn’t lose her courage. She managed to escape one day and ran as far as she could. The police linked Monali to one of ActionAid’s partners, who were able to take her home.

When they arrived, however, Monali’s parents refused to accept her. We did not give up on Monali. We continued to provide support and care, and arranged a new home for Monali in a government shelter, where she was safe, healthy, and linked to a school.

Like Monali, countless children are trafficked every year in India and sold for prostitution, child marriage and child labour. Many of them are still missing. Unfortunately, trafficking is just one of the dangers children face.

When you act for India’s children by donating to ActionAid, you are helping ensure lasting protection, nutrition and education to children from the most marginalised communities in India. You can help ensure a happy childhood for children like Monali.

When you support a child

You are not just helping them go to school and have a healthy childhood.
You are supporting the whole community that the child belongs to!
We strive to build a sustainable and socially just future for every community we work with. Children's education, nutrition and protection are at the centre of our focus in all our initiatives. In fact, we measure the progress of all our work by the progress that the children and women in the communities achieve.
