Basic Information About The Initiative
"Action India has been based in Delhi since 40 years and has been working to strengthen democratic institutions by enhancing the participation of women at the grassroots level. Founded in 1976, their work has been centered on empowering women-who are disproportionately vulnerable to crime and gender-based violence. It has adopted a two-pronged approach with an emphasis on: • Creating awareness and dissemination of information and knowledge • Building self-reliance by organizing grassroots groups to struggle for their rights Action India facilitates and enables poor and marginalized women to organize themselves, to demand a rightful share of social and economic resources, and to be a political voice in all spheres of development. The growth and development of Action India’s community based work has emerged as an integrated programme addressing the needs of women, children and youth, identifying its constituency among all classes of women challenging the established systems of inequality and injustice within patriarchal structures, Action India works for social transformation through policy advocacy, legislative reform, networking and alliance building from the grassroots to national forums for effective strategies to impact change.
