India has been under lock down since the 24th of March 2020, to break the spread of the novel SARS-CoV-2, also called the Corona virus. ActionAid Association (AAA) has rigorously responded to the crisis, reaching out to the most vulnerable communities. As we slowly emerge from the lock down, we need to ensure long term food security and public health and re-build people’s livelihood.

Annual flooding in Assam and Bihar causes severe disruption to the lives of lakhs of people each year. Bihar alone accounts for about 30-40% of the flood damages in India. 22.1% of the total flood affected population in India is reported to be located in the state. Bihar Floods 2020 have, as on the 12th of August, 2020, affected over 77.1 lakh people and the Assam Floods have affected over 56.8 lakh people. 40% of land in Assam is flood prone and 73% per cent of Bihar’s total land area, is vulnerable to flood.
So far 16 districts in Bihar and 30 districts in Assam have been affected by floods, and as the number continues to rise, victims of the floods need to be provided immediate and effective relief.
In the current situation with the spread of COVID-19, people are finding it challenging to access the relief usually expected during such crisis and facilities other than food are becoming more difficult to access as the attention of the government agencies is diverted to addressing issues related to the pandemic.
With the experience of having responded to Bihar Floods since 1994 and to floods in Assam for decades and numerous other disasters across the country, ActionAid Association is best equipped to respond to the situation. Your contribution to the relief fund can provide immediate relief and succour to vulnerable communities.
