Her Safety Matters
Protecting informal women workers
Every woman deserves safety and respect at work. Over 95% of women in India’s workforce are employed in the informal sector. Safety at work is not always assured for women workers such as domestic workers, agricultural laborers, street vendors, and construction workers. Harassment at their workplace too often goes unchecked.
Recognizing this lack of awareness among women in the informal sector about their right to a safe working environment, ActionAid Association has initiated "Her Safety Matters" as a campaign to spread awareness on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 also called the POSH Act.
What We Do
- Spread awareness of the POSH Act, 2013 by distributing an easy-to-read booklet on the POSH Act in English and regional languages such as Bengali, Hindi, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu to the informal women workers.
- Train community leaders on the provisions of the Act and to champion women’s safety.
- Provide legal protection to women facing harassment.
- Organize discussions and interface meetings with advocates and government officials to strengthen implementation of the Act.
What Your Support Does:
- Educate informal women workers about their rights.
- Organize awareness programmes across communities
- Train community leaders to safeguard women in their workplaces.
- Provide legal protection to women facing harassment.
We aim to educate 1 million informal women workers about their workplace rights and train 10,000 community leaders to defend women in their localities. Also, our target is to provide legal protection to 1 lakh women facing harassment.
