Punjab is facing one of the worst floods in recent decades. Heavy rains and overflowing rivers like the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi have flooded thousands of villages across the state. More than 2.5 lakh people have been affected in the past month.
At least 48 people have died, and many families have lost their homes and livelihoods. In several districts like Tarn Taran and Mansa, entire villages are under water. Poor families and daily wage workers are struggling to survive with no work, food, or shelter.
The government of Punjab, Army, Punjab Police, and NDRF/SDRF teams are working day and night to help. Still, the need is huge, and public support is urgently needed to help those affected.
Based on field assessments and discussions with local officials, we estimate to reach 500 families with immediate humanitarian support.
We are responding, in coordination with district administration to facilitate emergency support to the affected families in most severely impacted 30 villages in Tarn Taran and 12 villages in Mansa District, these villages are where the livelihoods of poor laborers have been severely disrupted due to suspension of work, making survival extremely difficult.
We appeal to you to please come forward and help in any way you can. You can donate immediate relief. Every small effort can help save lives and bring relief to those suffering. ActionAid Association’s trained humanitarian team, supported by volunteers and local community-based organisations, will lead relief efforts for the most vulnerable flood-affected families in Punjab. Led by a Humanitarian Coordinator, the team will work in close coordination with government authorities and local administration. Community volunteers will help identify, validate, and distribute relief to beneficiaries. All materials will be procured following ActionAid's Association's procurement policy, with transparency ensured through publicly displayed item lists and rates. Reports on fund utilisation and program progress will be submitted to the donor as required and upon completion.
