Bihar Floods: Families Need Your Help to Rebuild Their Lives.

The 2026 floods have brought immense hardship to families across Bihar. More than 34 lakh people have been affected across 13 districts, with homes, crops, livestock, livelihoods and essential services disrupted.

For One Family, The Flood Can Mean Losing Everything

For a family already living on daily wages, a flood can mean losing everything at once—a roof over their head, food stored for the family, crops, livestock, work and household belongings.

As floodwaters remain in many areas, families are also at increased risk from contaminated water, poor sanitation and disease. Women, children, older people and persons with disabilities face additional challenges during displacement and while trying to access relief.

For many, the emergency will not end when the water recedes.

They will need help to restore their homes, send their children back to school and restart their livelihoods.

Reaching Families Who Are Often Left Behind

Government agencies are leading rescue, evacuation and relief operations. Yet families living in remote riverine settlements, embankments, diaras and low-income communities can face difficulties accessing assistance.

ActionAid Association will work with communities and local partners to identify families who are most vulnerable and those who may have received little or no assistance.

Help Us Reach 3,000 Families

ActionAid Association is seeking support to reach 3,000 highly vulnerable flood-affected families across Bihar.

We will identify families based on the severity of flooding, displacement, damage to homes, loss of livelihoods and assets, access to essential services and the needs of women, children, persons with disabilities and older people.

Our response will remain flexible so that support can reach communities where the need is greatest as the flood situation changes.

Your Support Can:

Provide Emergency Shelter and Household Items:

  • Support will provide essential shelter and household items to families whose homes have been submerged, damaged or destroyed.
  • Assistance may include high-quality tarpaulin sheets, mosquito nets, mats and other essential household items , based on the needs of families staying in temporary shelters.

Provide Food Security and Essential Ration Support:

  • Flooding has disrupted agricultural activities, wage labour, local markets and household food stocks, leaving many families struggling to meet their daily food needs.
  • ActionAid Association will support selected families with essential dry ration packages, which may include rice, pulses and other locally appropriate food commodities.
  • The composition of each ration package will be finalised based on local market conditions, household needs and assessment findings.

Provide Hygiene Kits and Essential WASH Support

  • Flooding increases the risk of contaminated drinking water, poor sanitation and the spread of disease.
  • Support may include family hygiene kits, soap, essential hygiene materials and menstrual hygiene materials for women and adolescent girls. Families will also receive information on safe water handling, sanitation and hygiene practices, along with community-level Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) awareness.

Help children continue learning

  • Children who have lost their educational supplies or are unable to return to school may receive school bags, notebooks and other essential learning materials, helping them stay connected to their education during and after the crisis.

Support to rebuild livelihoods

  • Once immediate needs are addressed, selected families may receive support to restart their livelihoods and rebuild their sources of income, based on assessed needs and available resources.
