Support Relief Efforts for those affected by Michaung Cyclone, Chennai, Tamil Nadu - Donate Now

As Michaung Cyclone enters its second day in Tamil Nadu, regions where ActionAid Association is actively engaged with through multiple interventions, encompassing Chennai, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur, and Chengalpet, has been severely impacted, with heavy rain and wind causing widespread damage. Following a swift impact assessment by our team, it is evident that urgent relief measures are imperative to support affected families. Approximately 2,000 families urgently require assistance within our intervention areas, including homeless families in Broadway, Mannadi, Memorial Hall and other localities; people living in informal settlements; domestic workers, and residents of Perumbakkam and Semmancheri.

Assessing damaged houses of affected community for repair

The following items are urgently needed to address the immediate needs of the affected population:

  1. Shelter: bedsheets (2,000), tarpaulins (1,000), emergency lamps (1,000), candles & matches.
  2. Hygiene and Sanitation: sanitation kits (1,000), sanitary napkins (500 packs), toothbrushes and toothpaste (2,000 sets), soap (1,000 bars), towels (1,000), combs (500).
  3. Clothing: ladies' innerwear (500 sets), nighties for women (500), lungis for men (500), shorts and t-shirts for boys and men (500 sets), sarees (500).
  4. Food & Water: drinking water, rice (1,000 kg), dal (500 kg), cooking oil (500 litres), sugar (500 kg), salt (100 kg), bread and biscuits (1,000 packs), cooked food (sufficient quantity for 500 people, delivered three times a day).
  5. Food for New-born Babies: infant formula, milk powder.
  6. Additional Essential Items: first aid kits (500), basic medicines, mosquito coils (1,000), raincoats (500).

These essentials will greatly contribute to providing quick relief to families affected by the cyclone. Your prompt assistance in procuring these items is crucial to alleviate the hardships faced by our community. We are actively coordinating relief efforts and would appreciate any assistance you can provide in mobilizing resources.
