Stand with families in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha as they recover from devastating floods and destruction.
On October 28, 2026, Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Arnab struck India's eastern coastline, bringing destructive winds, torrential rainfall and storm surges that left a trail of devastation across Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
Homes have been damaged, villages submerged, roads washed away and livelihoods destroyed. Thousands of families have been displaced, while many remain stranded in flood-hit villages, waiting for rescue and essential supplies.
The scale of destruction is immense. More than 1.8 lakh people were evacuated to temporary relief shelters across Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. In Andhra Pradesh, nine deaths have been reported, with an estimated 3.45 lakh farmers affected and nearly 3.25 lakh hectares of agricultural land inundated. The estimated property damage stands at ₹4,600 crore.
In Odisha, particularly Ganjam and Gajapati districts, more than 1,000 villages have been affected by flash floods, landslides and overflowing rivers. Thousands of families have taken shelter in relief camps, while several villages remain marooned and people stranded without access to basic needs.
Behind these numbers are families who have lost their homes, food supplies, belongings and sources of income. Small farmers have seen their standing crops destroyed, fishing communities have lost valuable working days and equipment, and daily-wage and migrant workers face an uncertain future.
The immediate challenge is to ensure that every affected family has access to food, safe drinking water, hygiene essentials and temporary shelter.
ActionAid Association has initiated a rapid, community-led emergency response across the affected districts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
Our teams have started distributing food to affected families in Visakhapatnam. In other locations, we have worked closely with state authorities to support evacuation efforts and help people access safe accommodation in relief camps.
As communities begin the difficult journey towards recovery, we are prioritizing families who are most vulnerable to the impact of the cyclone and floods.
Your generosity can help affected families access essential supplies and begin rebuilding their lives.
Dry ration kits containing flour, pulses, cooking oil, salt, sugar, spices and biscuits to help families meet their immediate food requirements.
Hygiene kits containing sanitary napkins, bathing soap, detergent, buckets, mugs and water chlorination tablets to help families maintain personal hygiene and access safer water.
Tarpaulin sheets for temporary roofing and ground cover, fleece blankets, nylon ropes, torches and mosquito nets to help families find protection from harsh weather and unsafe living conditions.
Our response will prioritize:
For families affected by Cyclone Arnab, the road to recovery will be long. While immediate relief is essential, they will also need continued support to restore their homes, livelihoods and sense of security.
Your contribution can help provide food to a hungry family, hygiene essentials to a woman, and temporary shelter to someone who has lost their home.
Stand with families affected by Cyclone Arnab. Help them overcome this crisis and rebuild their lives with dignity.
Together, we can bring hope, relief and a fresh beginning to families in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
