Donate to North-East Flood Relief Response

Floods and landslides in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam have so far claimed lives of 11 people while at least eight persons are missing since May 14, 2022.

The flood situation in Assam continued to remain grim with rising water levels of the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers inundating fresh areas in the state and impacting over 55 lakh people across 32 districts. As many as 54,57,601 people, including 11,67, 219 children, from 4,941 villages have been affected. A total of 845 relief camps and 1,026 relief distribution centres have been opened in the affected areas. A total of 2,71,125 people are staying in the relief camps while over 99,026 hectares of crops have been damaged. The water in three rivers – Brahmaputra, Kopili and Disang is flowing above the danger level in several places. Twelve people died Wednesday, taking the total death toll from floods this year to 100. National Disaster Response Force personnel have been engaged in Cachar districts to evacuate people to safe places, while representatives of State Disaster Response Force and other agencies are also deployed in few districts.

We are working closely with the district administration and trying to facilitate evacuation, dry ration, food, clean drinking water, and temporary relief such as shelter, food and hygiene kits for the families who have been affected in certain parts of the state.

Engaged with the most marginalised communities in India since 1972, ActionAid Association works in 24 states and two union territories with several partners and allied organisations. During our 50 years of service and solidarity with vulnerable communities, we have responded to several emergencies across the country, including floods, cyclones, earthquakes and more recently, the recent COVID-19 pandemic, with an aim to reach the unreached.
