A severe flood crisis continues to grapple many parts of Bihar, displacing thousands and causing widespread damage to infrastructure and farmland. The breach of six barrages in 24 hours on Sunday aggravated the situation, leading to the overflow of major rivers like the Kosi, Gandak, and Bagmati, severely affecting districts near the Indo-Nepal border.

The rising water levels of the Ganga River have severely impacted 67 blocks across 13 districts of Bihar, including Bhagalpur, Patna, and Katihar. Approximately 28.71 lakh people have been affected by the floods across 450 villages. More details

The streets of Bihar is flooded with knee-deep water.

The breach of six embankments within 24 hours on Sunday worsened the situation, causing the overflow of major rivers like the Kosi, Gandak, and Bagmati. Floods in these rivers, as well as the Mahananda, have affected 206 blocks across 16 districts, including East Champaran, Araria, and Sitamarhi. Approximately 696,000 people across 1,206 villages have been impacted.

85 relief camps have been set up by the Government of Bihar, providing shelter to more than 47,000 people, serving meals to 175,600 daily. 1,170 boats, medical teams, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are assisting in rescue and relief efforts.

The Bihar Inter Agency Group (B-IAG), in collaboration with UNICEF and Sphere India, is coordinating flood relief efforts. They held an emergency meeting and are conducting a Joint Rapid Needs Assessment.

ActionAid Association is also responding with relief, targeting the most vulnerable amongst affected communities.
