The Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘DANA’ was formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and made landfall on 25th from 12.30am to 6.00am on Odisha coast with estimated maximum sustained surface wind speed of 120 kmph. It crossed Odisha Coast near Habalikhati Nature Camp, Bhitarkanika that is situated in Kendrapara district. Around 6 lakh people were evacuated by the state administration and sheltered in 6008 cyclone shelters and safe shelters. 388 response force team including NDRF (National Disaster Response Team), Fire and ODRAF (Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force) were deployed for rescue operations
The IMD has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in all coastal and central districts of Odisha during next 2/3 days which may create flood situations. The state government has advised the inmates of cyclone and safe shelters not to go back to home immediately and stay back in the shelters for 2/3 days.
