End Child Marriage, Empower Young Lives!

Educate India’s daughters! Gift them a bright future.

Child marriage robs children of their childhood. As it involves the marriage of minors, it puts children, especially girls under extreme vulnerability, shouldering responsibilities and facing demands before they are physically, mentally or emotionally ready. Child Marriage perpetuates a cycle of poverty, illiteracy and gender inequality, limiting the life opportunities of those affected. ActionAid Association is dedicated to ending child marriage and works tirelessly to prevent it, provide support to those impacted by it and ensure that you children, especially girls can say “No to Child Marriage and Yes to School!”. We are working on Adolescent Empowerment and Ending Child Marriage in 62 districts of 5 different states, i.e., Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Odisha, and West Bengal. We need your help to make a lasting change.

About ActionAid Association

ActionAid Association is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fighting poverty, inequality, and injustice. For over four decades, we have been working tirelessly to create a just and equitable society. Our mission is to ensure that every child in India has the opportunity to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment, free from the bonds of child marriage.

Why Child Marriage Must End:

Child Marriage is cause for serious concern. Despite legal restrictions, socio-cultural factors persist, perpetuating this harmful practice. Education and awareness are essential to combat this problem and empower girls to lead fulfilling lives, free from early marriage's shackles.

Child marriage robs children of opportunities and condemns them to a life burdened with responsibility and deprived of the chance to grow, play and learn. ActionAid Association is committed to ending child marriage.

FAQ's

ActionAid Association has been working with poor and marginalised people in India since 1972. We work in 24 states and two Union Territory, reaching out to over 6 million people every year, most of whom belong to the most marginalised and excluded groups in India.

We partner with local NGOs, community based organizations and people's movements to collectively address poverty, inequality and injustice.

Our focus is on the rights of India’s most marginalised communities: Dalit and indigenous people, rural and urban poor, women, children and minorities. These groups face an acute lack of access to and control over resources, services, and institutions and our efforts are to equip them with knowledge about their rights and develop capacities in them to demand their constitutional rights.

We pay special attention to those in vulnerable situations, such as people living with chronic hunger; people with disabilities; migrant and bonded workers; children who are out of school; city-dwellers without a home; and people whose land or livelihood is under threat. We also work with women, men, girls and boys who have been trafficked, displaced, or hit by natural and human-made disasters.

ActionAid Association supports a wide range of long term and short term initiatives, which aim to improve the lives and living conditions of marginalised communities such as Dalit and indigenous people, rural and urban poor, women, children and minorities. In the process, we work closely with several grassroots organisations and community based organisations, who lead the work on the ground. 80% of the donations we receive are used for the implementation of these initiatives on the ground. 13% of the donation we raise are spent to strengthen the support systems at various levels that help us in executing these initiatives. 7% of the funds we raise are used for activities that help us to mobilise resources that can guarantee long term support to such initiatives.

  • What is child sponsorship?

Sponsorship is a way to maximise the support you give for undertaking initiatives that are locally-led in the child’s community for children to secure their future and also create sustainable change. We know that helping families and communities access Government welfare programmes and schemes and become self-sufficient is the best way to secure children’s futures.

  • How will you be making a difference?

Your contribution not only helps your sponsored child, but also the entire community in which s/he lives. As the result of your support the children and their communities will gain access to their rights, including the right to dignity, right to food, right to shelter, right to education etc

  • How much should you contribute?

A minimum of Rs. 750 per child, per month. This means you will be contributing Rs. 9000/- per year, or Rs. 27000/- for three years, which makes a huge difference. You can also be a multi-sponsor, by sponsoring more than one child.

  • How long does the sponsorship go on?

We encourage you to sponsor a child for at least 3 years. You will be happy to know that many of our sponsors have shared our journey since 1972, when child sponsorship started in India.

  • Would you be able to write to your sponsored child?

Yes, of course your sponsored child will be happy to hear from you.

  • Would a visit to your sponsored child be possible?

The ActionAid Association team will always be willing to help arrange a visit for you, although we are unable to help with the travel costs.

  • Can I send a gift to my sponsored child?

Yes, of course. However, in order to ensure that we do not discriminate between a sponsored child and a non-sponsored child, you are encouraged to give gifts of money. You can also send gifts in kind like colouring materials, sports equipment, etc. which can be used by many children.

Only Indian nationals are eligible for tax exemption as this benefit is valid only in India. Contributions to ActionAid Association are exempted from Tax under section 80G of Income Tax Act 1961, which means a tax exemption of 50% of your contribution.
