Urgent Fundraising Appeal: Support Relief Efforts for Floods in India.

The monsoon floods in India in 2024 have been unprecedented in both their extent and severity, affecting millions of lives and causing widespread damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and ecosystems. The monsoon’s havoc is likely to continue as intense rainfall has caused severe impact across various states in recent weeks. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall in Gujarat, prompting the issuance of ‘yellow’ and ‘orange’ alerts for several districts in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Many lives have been lost.

ActionAid Association has been actively engaged in Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, focusing on enhancing resilience and providing emergency support to vulnerable communities. In response to recent floods impacting nearby regions, ActionAid Association has mobilized resources and support to address immediate needs and mitigate long-term effects. Our efforts include delivering essential supplies, such as food kits, hygiene materials, and temporary shelter provisions, to affected families. Additionally, we are working closely with local authorities and partners to ensure effective distribution and targeted assistance for the most vulnerable groups, including women, children, and individuals with disabilities. ActionAid Association’s ongoing presence in these states enables us to leverage local knowledge and networks, ensuring that our response is both timely and impactful. Through this coordinated approach, we aim to support affected communities in rebuilding their lives and restoring their livelihoods in the wake of the crisis.

As per the Assessment done by ActionAid the following key needs have been identified :

    Shelter:
  • Immediate supply of shelter kits (Rope, Tarpaulin), lighting solutions, utensils, and financial support to households who have totally or partly lost their houses.
  • Run regular and temporary shelters for at least 15 days with food supply to facilitate temporary accommodation to those who have lost their dwellings and allow them to focus on repairing their houses.
  • Sanitation and Hygiene:
  • Repairing of the toilets or construction of temporary toilets.
  • Special awareness on hygiene and safe sanitation, especially with children, People with Disabilities, adolescent girls and women. Supply of sanitation kits, including sanitary napkin, soap, hand wash, toothbrush etc.
  • Food and Nutrition:
  • Urgent supply of nutrients to children and pregnant/lactating mothers.
  • Provide ration to affected household.
  • Additional supply of nutrient supplement to children and lactating mothers.
  • Provide kitchen material to affected household.
