Sponsor a child in India

When you sponsor a child with ActionAid, you not only help the child in need but also transform the lives of children in the community where the sponsored child lives, by ensuring they get access to quality education, nutrition through government led health schemes as well as their protection. Your sponsorship also helps poor and vulnerable communities to build a more enabling context for their children to be protected and cared for.

Working with grassroots-based organisations, we strive towards making vulnerable communities aware of constitutional values and their rights including the rights of children. Your sponsorship empowers our efforts to save the children in poor communities from crimes like child trafficking, child labour and child marriage. Essentially, you help children become better citizens for a better tomorrow.

What is child sponsorship?

Sponsorship is a way to maximise the support you give for undertaking initiatives that are locally-led in the child’s community for children to secure their future and also create sustainable change. We know that helping families and communities access Government welfare programmes and schemes and become self-sufficient is the best way to secure children’s futures.

The sponsored child keeps you informed about the progress made in their lives and that of the community. To effectively leverage the sponsored child’s efforts as an ambassador of the community in which he or she lives, we link each child to up to three donors.

Become a regular donor

Regular giving (or direct debit) helps us to plan for long-term projects. There is an urgent need for regular giving as the people we work with, need help every day. Your regular donation allows us to implement impactful programmes which will bring about a substantial change in their lives.

When you sponsor a child

  • You are mobilising our efforts that can render access to government-led child’s free education, healthcare and protection, and well-being of the community.
  • You are not just helping the child go to school but are addressing all the factors that are keeping the child out of it.
  • You are also helping build opportunities for the child's family to have a sustainable source of livelihood and income.

FAQ's

ActionAid India has been working with poor and marginalised people in India since 1972. We work in 25 states and one Union Territory, reaching out to over 6 million people every year, most of whom belong to the most marginalised and excluded groups in India.

We partner with local NGOs, community based organizations and people's movements to collectively address poverty, inequality and injustice.

Our focus is on the rights of India’s most marginalised communities: Dalit and indigenous people, rural and urban poor, women, children and minorities. These groups face an acute lack of access to and control over resources, services, and institutions and our efforts are to equip them with knowledge about their rights and develop capacities in them to demand their constitutional rights.

We pay special attention to those in vulnerable situations, such as people living with chronic hunger; people with disabilities; migrant and bonded workers; children who are out of school; city-dwellers without a home; and people whose land or livelihood is under threat. We also work with women, men, girls and boys who have been trafficked, displaced, or hit by natural and human-made disasters.

ActionAid supports a wide range of long term and short term initiatives, which aim to improve the lives and living conditions of marginalised communities such as Dalit and indigenous people, rural and urban poor, women, children and minorities. In the process, we work closely with several grassroots organisations and community based organisations, who lead the work on the ground. 80% of the donations we receive are used for the implementation of these initiatives on the ground. 13% of the conations we raise are spent to strengthen the support systems at various levels that help us in executing these initiatives. 7% of the funds we raise are used for activities that help us to mobilise resources that can guarantee long term support to such initiatives.
