News reports say that in the fiscal year 2024–25, India witnessed an 18% increase in deaths caused by natural disasters compared to the previous year—with 3,080 lives lost, marking the highest toll in 11 years.
These disasters damaged over 360,000 houses and caused widespread agricultural losses. The year 2024 alone saw over 400 natural disaster events, the highest in two decades. In the first half of 2025, more than 160,000 people across India lost their homes due to such calamities.
When disasters strike, it is always the most vulnerable who suffer first and suffer most. Families living in poverty, in fragile homes, and in far-off areas are often left with little protection. Women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities face the greatest risks and often wait the longest for help to arrive.
At ActionAid Association, we stand by these communities in their hardest moments—rushing emergency relief, supporting recovery, and helping them rebuild their lives with dignity and strength.
