‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan’ a welcome step: Beti Zindabad Campaigners

Date : 26-Jun-2018

In solidarity with the ongoing awareness drive in Haryana as part of the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP)’ abhiyan, campaigners of ‘Beti Zindabad’ are organizing various events to showcase their support to the scheme which will formally be launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in Panipat from 20-22 of January.

“It is encouraging to see this massive movement for gender equality and girls’ empowerment taking shape across Haryana as part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan. The campaigners of Beti Zindabad! extend their solidarity to this effort and welcome the move to include grassroots organisations and panchayat leaders in empowering girls and women.” said Tanveer Kazi, Regional Manager (Delhi), ActionAid India

“This is certainly a boost to our own efforts in bringing over 1000 gram Sabha leaders, across India, to pass a resolution promising to make their villages discrimination and violence free”, he added

As part of “Beti Zindabad” campaign, ActionAid India and its partner organizations across the country have been reaching out to gram panchayats, urban bodies, women’s self help groups, medical associations, paramedics, young parents and students to promote ideas of equality and social justice. Since June 2012, a total of 1943 village councils have passed resolutions to make their villages free from violence against women.

“Beti Zindabad campaign endeavors to bring about social justice for women and girls who are forced to bear the brunt of our unjust society,” said Sehjo Singh, Director – Programmes and Policy, ActionAid India.

“Through our campaign, we basically challenge the patriarchal mindset by mobilising women and men, girls and boys in our endeavors towards creating a society free from gender biases and inequalities. We want them to be treated as equal human beings and allowed to enjoy their just rights,” she added.
