Education and awareness programmes for the youth in Bangalore
ActionAid along with our local partner BRIDGE work in 32 urban slums with 15890 families in Bangalore in Karnataka State.She lives in Byappanahalli with her mother, father and sister. Her father Prakash is a daily wage labourer and mother Sathya sells sarees from home.She studies in 8th standard and has to attended classes from 8.50am to 3.40 pm daily. In the evening she goes for tuitions which are free. These tuitions are organised by BRIDGE through volunteers who help children like her to understand their lessons better by providing individual attention to each of them.“I am one of the members of the adolescent group formed by BRIDGE and we gather once in a month on Saturdays. We are given awareness on many of the issues of adolescence age and the ways to come out of it. We also discuss on some of the issues related to our community.”
