With a view to enhancing knowledge of communities on sustainable environment development and improving green cover through collective community actions, ActionAid Association, with support from DXC Technology, is running a programme in 10 slum and resettlement colonies of Delhi-NCR.
Along with Action India, we facilitated several plantation drives in Delhi from July 22 to July 29 under a Green Week initiative. The programme saw over 2,000 saplings being planted across 10 parks and 10 government schools in East, North-East, West and South Delhi. Community members, students, teachers as well as municipal councillors actively participated in these drives.
As part of the Green Week, a poster-making competition was organized in a government senior secondary school in Seelampur, East Delhi, on July 29 where more than 200 students participated. They were also sensitized on environment-related issues and on the importance of people’s participation towards making the environment clean and green. In addition, children organized a human chain to raise awareness among communities to say no to plastic and save environment.
