Basic Information about the initiative
DISHA was formed in 1995 by some environmental, public health and social activists. Based in Kolkata, DISHA started its journey through small local efforts and reached out to policy level activities.DISHA has been working with the small and traditional fishing communities since the year 2000. It has been closely working with different forums, platforms and collectives all along the coast line of India. It has networking with National Fishworkersﾒ Forum which is the largest federation of fishworkersﾒ organizations all over India. Especially DISHA has been networking in the three eastern coastal states of West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
