- Empowering the communities to access their rights over land, water, forests and other commons; advocating for their participation in public welfare schemes; restoring rights of women and girls, and ensuring their safety; ensuring the rights of children, their education and protection; and advocating for providig them with equal socio-economic opportunities;
- Basic Information about the initiative
- The organisation AIM is working in 42 villages of Mitoli block in Lakhimpur Kheri district. Agriculture is the main source of livelihood in the district, and these areas are dominated by upper castes such as brahmins, thakurs and Kurmis, whose control over agricultural land is very strong and extensive. Dalits have little access to agricultural land being either landless agricultural labour or small farmers. Households in the Dalit community find it difficult to lead a life in dignity and food security issues. In addition to economic discrimination, these communities also face social discrimination. Untouchability and caste discrimination against Dalits is prevalent in these areas. Within the community children and women are the most vulnerable
